About the Artist
Art Messer was a fine art painter who lived and painted in Seattle until until his death in 2014. His original paintings have been widely collected in North America and Europe since the early 1980s. He was best known for his use of strong color and shapes in the Post-Impressionism or Fauvist tradition.
Fauvist or les Fauves (the French word for "wild-beast") was the art establishment’s label for Post-Impressionist painters like Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy and Paul CÚzanne, and their bold use of color as expression in the early 1900's.
Travels in France
Arthur Messer traveled to Paris and southern France many times over the years. There he experienced the Fauvist art movement and incorporated their "joie de vie" into his own original works.
